The Presence of Women in the Latin American Contemporary Music Courses (CLAMC)

This article brings results of a survey carried out between 2020 and 2023, about the presence of women in the Cursos Latinoamericanos de Música Contemporánea (Latin American Contemporary Music Courses), or CLAMC, held annually in five Latin American countries – one of them being Brazil –, between 1971 and 1989. The objective of the research was to raise hypotheses and spark debates about this participation, based on quantitative and qualitative data that observed women in five specific areas: composition, interpretation, authorship of works, teaching and learning. A previous article on the topic was published by this magazine in the first year of investigation, 2020, in which it presented partial comparative results to the male presence in such categories in the aforementioned events. The current text seeks to give a more complete view of the topic, including the analysis of a woman composer's work presented during the CLAMC.
