Abstract

In this interview, the Portuguese filmmaker Edgar Pêra discusses his proposal of imagery elaboration, how it is motivated just like musical composition and how it has guided his career since it started in the 1980s. In various recording and exhibition formats, several of his creations bring images edited in superimposition, with the same simultaneity as different instruments interact in an orchestra, as his live shows called cine-concerts exemplify. This effect was enhanced since the 2010s, when he began filming in 3D. His films circulate more through the circuit of festivals around the world and do not often have the endorsement of specialized critics. Pêra indicates how his projects mix qualities related to 2D and 3D images, in unexpected combinations that enhance or restrict interpretations, spatial and temporal aspects that adjectivize the primary senses of the filmed content.
