Focus

Created in 2020, Musimid: Revista Brasileira de Estudos em Música e Mídia (ISSN 2675-3944 | Prefixo DOI: 10.29327/16597) is a biannual open access journal published by the Centro de Estudos em Música e Mídia - MusiMid with blind peer review. It publishes interdisciplinary texts on music, with emphasis on musical semiotics, as well as in the strict sense (musicology, history, criticism).

Among the topics of interest of the Journal, the issues related to performance and its models stand out: its relations with the body and its various layers of mediation, throughout history; the role of technology and media platforms in the processes of poetic communication; the design of musical instrument and its interpolation with various devices, existing or obsolete (microphone, amplification, high-fidelity), and media platforms; variations in listening patterns, taste and aesthetic sensitivity, through the introduction of different sound media; soundscapes and changes in sensitivity; the interfaces of musical language with other artistic languages; issues related to contemporaneity, globalization, identity, belonging and affective bond, through music; cultural, musical and media memory; constitution of stable values in the ephemeral era.

History

The Journal is a publication carried out by the Center for Studies in Music and Media, whose existence was initiated informally at the XIII National Meeting of Anppom, in March 2001, as a Working Group Music and Media. After the event, the WG continued its activities, organizing communications sessions in congresses, lectures, holding discussions at a distance.

From 2003, the activities of the Group were formalized, with the creation of the then-called Center for Studies in Music and Media - MusiMid. Linked to university institutions, funding has emerged, by research funding agencies, as well as national and international exchanges. With the support of agencies, MusiMid developed several research projects, publications, multimedia and videos, as well as local, national and international scientific meetings, especially the Music and Media Meetings (started in September 2005) and the Music and Media Studies Days (which began in 2009).

The Process of Peer Review

The evaluation of the manuscripts will be carried out by at least two reviewers, who must necessarily be members of the Editorial Board or the Committee of Ad Hoc Reviewers of MusiMid: Revista Brasileira de Estudos em Música e Mídia. The reviewers will be appointed by the section editors or the editor-in-chief, through an analysis that considers both the adherence between the proposals of the manuscripts and the scientific production of the reviewers and the absence of conflicts of interest. When receiving the opinions of a manuscript, if there is disagreement in the indication of the decision, the editor will forward it to a third reviewer, following the same criteria.

MusiMid: Revista Brasileira de Estudos em Música e Mídia adopts the double-blind evaluation system, so manuscripts must be inserted in the platform without the identification of authorship or any other information in the text that can identify authorship. Information on authorship should appear only in the metadata. The author should insert the manuscript directly on the website:

Manuscripts submitted to be considered for evaluation must be original, unpublished and not simultaneously submitted to other journals. Manuscripts must be submitted in the journal’s official Template and adopt Chicago protocol.

The evaluation of the submitted manuscripts will be carried out in two phases, using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. The first phase aims to analyze whether the manuscripts are aligned with the scope and focus of the journal and meet the norms of submission, formatting and non-identification of authorship, according to guidelines available in the section Guidelines to Authors. This phase will be performed by the editor-in-chief or section editors. In the second phase, manuscripts will be sent, without identification, respecting the double-blind evaluation system, to at least two referees indicated by the section editors or the editor-in-chief.

The opinions issued, considering the responses to the analytical codes present in the evaluation form, will be forwarded, via OJS platform, to the authors' e-mail, together with the decision of the section editors or the editor-in-chief, so that they become aware. It is noteworthy that the evaluation form, previously defined by the Editorial Team, was prepared and is updated, whenever necessary, from the consultation to the Editorial Board.

The decision of the section editors or the editor-in-chief may result in three situations: 1) Accept (the manuscript may be published as presented); 2) Mandatory corrections (when the manuscript requires revisions, whether small or deeper, involving, for example, problems of form or content, or presenting the lack of any reference or presenting some difficult to understand passage; 3) Reject (this decision is indicated for that manuscript that needs to be completely modified to become publishable, that is, when the necessary changes are complex or profound).

Manuscripts accepted for publication must necessarily comply with the guidelines that guide the submission of papers. It is up to the section editors or the editor-in-chief to condition the approval of manuscripts for publication to the specified modifications in opinions issued by the reviewers.
